Anxiety, Fires & Our Responsibility to the Next Generation
Gratitude in Uncertain Times
First of all, the fires remind us how fragile life is, especially for those who lost their homes. Let's take a moment to be grateful and thank the firefighters and first responders who protect us.
If you live in Los Angeles, you’ve felt it—the smoke, the chaos, the sense that this wasn’t just another seasonal fire. It felt disruptive, like a gut punch.
I was angered. Homes lost, families displaced, and children—already burdened by COVID, school disruptions, and rising stress—are absorbing even more uncertainty. But countering this isn’t about chasing new ideologies or systems. Real change starts with us.
Children Absorb Everything
Kids don’t just hear what we say—they feel our stress, our anxiety, our overwhelm. If we’re stuck in cycles of fear and reaction, they internalize that as their normal. And today after 45 years of treating generations of families, I’m seeing the negative effects that were once only affecting adults.
93% of Free Time Is Spent on Screens
It’s no surprise kids are more anxious and dysregulated than ever. 93% of their free time is spent in front of screens. Movement, play, and real-world connection are missing, and their nervous systems aren’t getting the reset they need.
The Fix: Get Back to Basics
Move Together – Toss a ball, go fishing, play ping pong-active bodies regulate stress.
Get Outside – Nature isn’t a luxury; it’s essential for a healthy nervous system.
Make Fun a Priority – Laughter and play create stability faster than any supplement.
More Awareness, Less Projection
Are we truly supporting our kids, or just passing down our own stress and limitations? Instead of asking them to adapt to a broken world, let’s build one where they can thrive.
Call to Action: In the Stillness Rests The Power(Coherence)
In our office, we train clients, especially parents, to master stress and lead with resilience. Using Heart math and 3 core training practices (Extended sessions only), we help you:
Stay Calm – Remain steady in any situation, no matter if the stress is internal or external.
Find Clarity – Breathe through obstacles and let the brain work for you to find answers unconsciously.
Align & Adapt – Set goals that match a regulated, focused mind. Seeing both the outcome and obstacle in a different light.
Now’s the time to act. With an extended session in our office start creating stability for yourself and guess what, your family automatically entrain to your rhythm. Next time, we’ll dive even deeper into navigating this chaotic world—stay tuned!
With resilience,
Cliff Matsuno PT
