Ivy League Blues: The Symptoms of Overthinking
We All Know Someone Who Overthinks Everything.
Maybe it’s you—replaying conversations, forecasting disaster, or just trying to control every outcome. It may feel like you’re being responsible, but your body doesn’t see the difference.
To the nervous system, overthinking = threat.
The High Cost of Being a High Performer
Ivy League students—and high achievers in general—are trained to push hard, think harder, and never show stress. But under that polished exterior. Rates of anxiety, depression, and burnout triple the national average.
The consequences are real: autoimmune issues, thyroid dysfunction, chronic fatigue, and even atrial fibrillation.
And remember: the firehouse works just as hard for false alarms as it does for real ones.
One study even found the smartest med students had the highest cholesterol before exams. Better electricity through fat. Being brilliant doesn’t protect you from stress, it just makes you better at over complicating it.
Just to be clear—I’m not making fun of Ivy Leaguers. Some of my most satisfying results have come from brilliant minds finally learning how to let go. And when they do? Watch out! These folks shape culture, policy, and innovation—when they heal, the ripple effect is profound.
Strategic Breathing
The mind can’t manage the mind. That’s why we start with breath.
Strategic Breathing—used by martial artists before battle—isn’t just calming, it’s commanding. It teaches the nervous system to lead, not react. With our Strategic Breathing, clients learn to shift out of mental chaos and into clarity—through the breath.
An Old, New Way
Our approach starts in the body:
Strategic breathing regulates the system
Posture shapes our internal narrative
Movement either malforms or transforms functional holding patterns
Together, these lead to stillness—the entry point to deeper brain function and self-regulation. In stillness, the heart goes into coherence and tells the brain, “You’re calm. I don’t care what’s going on up there” (Fun fact: the heart sends more signals to the brain than the brain sends to the heart.)
And just maybe… the real source of cellular inflammation and dysfunction isn’t autoimmune, thyroid or atrial fib—it’s being stuck in Fight, Flight…and doing neither we are stuck in Freeze Frame. Keep your cars emergency brake on..lol
This is where the real work begins: pause, breathe, reset.
Rewiring for Clarity
After 45 years assisting clients as a PT and Hypnotherapist and utilizing Heartmath as sensory feedback, I guide people in dehypnotizing from outdated holding patterns so they can finally sense the intuition again. It’s not about being “put under.” It’s about finding stillness and self-suggesting to ourselves what’s authentic.
From autoimmune to burnout, some of our most dramatic turnarounds come from those once stuck in analysis mode. Because when we stop trying to think our way to health, we finally allow it to happen.
Call it the zone, inspiration, or the voice of God—it’s way smarter than what’s in our head.
An Invitation (with zero pressure)
If this resonates, feel free to forward this to someone you know who is in the loop—especially your alumni networks. It’s been a true delight to have had clients from HBS, Wharton, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Penn, and even Johns Hopkins and LSE who came because a friend said, “Hey, you may benefit from this old Japanese therapist, Miyagi??”.

No hype. No agenda. Just powerful tools to navigate in a world we can no longer rationalize or go back.
In the old world of learning, apprentice, journeyman, and maestro, transformation unfolds in stages:
Education is the laborer
Knowledge is the craftsman
Wisdom is the artist
Many have mastered education. You’ve earned your knowledge.
Now comes the art of healing—and the wisdom that doesn’t live in books.
If this resonates, we would be honored to share a legacy with you.
